Plants 5-8 dm. tall, the stem simple or branched, densely and rather coarsely pubescent with partially appressed and partially spreading hairs; leaves spreading, the blades oblong or ovate-oblong and 4-10 cm. long, or obovate near the base of the plant and smaller than the upper ones, obtuse or abruptly pointed, paler beneath than above, rather coarsely pubescent and about equally pubescent on both sides, rounded or subcordate at the base, very short-petioled; flower-clusters rather contracted during anthesis; sepals lanceolate, 3-4 mm. long, the glands much less than one half the length of the sepal-body; petals yellow, the larger ones 7-11 mm. long, the blades oblong or oval, lacerate-denticulate; samaras obovate, 11-13 mm. long, acute at the base, emarginate at the apex, finely pubescent. Type Locality: Between Huejuquilla and Mesquitec, Jalisco. Distribution: Jalisco. 9. BANISTERIOPSIS . B. Robinson, gen. nov. Climbing or reclining shrubs, with much-branched stems. Leaves opposite; blades commonly leathery, glabrous or copiously pubescent, sometimes reticulate, entire, petioled. Calyx with 8 or 10 glands, or glandless; sepals 5, broad, somewhat unequal, persistent. Corolla pink, purplish, or yellow, or rarely white; petals 5, the blades broad, denticulate to lacerate. Stamens 10; filaments decidedly unequal in length; anthers often with very large connectives. Ovary 3-lobed. Styles 3, terminal. Stigmas terminal, covering the clavate or truncate end of the style. Samaras 3 together, or fewer, each with an ascending or spreading dorsal wing, the wing with a marginal thickening along the vent...
